During World War II, in German-occupied Poland, plumber Bodek (Robert Wieckiewicz) and his partner Zapek doubled as thieves, and the intricate sewers became their best hideout and storage room. He did business with the blockaded Jewish ghetto in the city, was an old acquaintance with the Ukrainian officers in the German army, and enjoyed a little freedom in the troubled times.
